When a contract goes wrong, the first question is what obligation was breached and what consequence the contract or law attaches to it. A strong response identifies the exact term, the conduct said to breach it, the evidence, any notice requirements, the loss claimed and the remedy sought. Overstating the case can weaken credibility.
